CRACK's guest artist: Udom Udomsrianan

Since the beginning of the new millennium Udom Udomsrianan has become well-known worldwide for his furniture design branded Planet 2001, esp. the Threesome Noodles chair. Udom's works were included in many exhibitions all over America and Europe, including the prestigious Centre George Pompidou.

Initially trained in fine arts from Silpakorn University, Udom now works both as designer and artist, with his wonderful sense for forms. The work Udom will show in CRACK is an installation of over 20 ceramic pieces manufactured at the infamous Tao-Hong-Tai pottery.

Meet Mormorist No.1: Pratya Raktabutr

Pratya Raktabutr is one of very few in Thailand with real passions for ceramics. A graduate from Rangsit University and Canberra School of Art with experiences in Japan and exhibitions in Bangkok, Chiangmai, Australia and most recently China, Pratya teaches in many major ceramic schools in Thailand, including Silpakorn University and Chulalongkorn University.

Pratya is an expert in clay forming through the use of moulds and raku/smoke firing, a mad potter in his own right. That is why Pratya is now working on his small-kiln project, which aims to provide affordable facilities for anyone interested in working with clay. There are more than a few projects in line after CRACK. All of them are initiated by Pratya - our number 1 shaker&mover !!!

Btw, the above text was not written by Pratya. He's too shy to boast about himself.

Do you know the way to CRACK?

And Here is the map to CRACK (click on the map to enlarge)

Well, the venue called Baan Silom may sound obscure to you. But if you've been to Silom area regularly, you surely have seen the colonial-styled two-storeyed shopping arcade with a big plaza in the middle. That is where Baan Silom is. If you come from Silom junction (the Dusit Thani) you will have to drive pass Naratiwas junction towards Seepraya. Baan Silom is on your left. Just almost opposite Central Department Store (Silom Branch).

If you prefer to take BTS skytrain, Take the Sapan Taksin line to Surasak station. Then walk back to Silom Road, turn left at Mahesak junction, walk further back towards the direction of Silom Junction, Baan Silom is on your right. Or just take a motorcycle taxi. They always wait for customers by the foot of the station's stairs. 20 Baht is the fee.
